Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Universitas Indonesia (BEM UI) has 15 Bureaus and Departments. Each of them thrives for different goals and programs, all created for the improvement of both Ul students and Indonesia in the big picture. As one of the departments, Departemen Lingkungan Hidup (DLH), mainly focuses on environmental issues. DLH's works are raising public awareness, doing community services, and holding environment-centered events. One of said events is Ul Youth Environmental Action (UI YEA). Since 2012, UI YEA has been an annual event held by DLH BEM UI. Now, eight years since it was first established, Ul YEA is ready to expand itself and becomes an international level of student summit.
The year 2020 is a historic point for the Paris Agreement and the Social Development Goals (SDGs) because it only leaves a decade from the target deadline to be achieved.
Therefore, The 9th UI Youth Environmental Action has brought the theme of "The Year of Renewable Energy Transition for Global Benefits" this year. Furthermore, Jakarta as part of C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) duly fulfilled the deadline of 40 commitments, i.e. the deadline for each country as a member of C40 for implementing ambitious climate policy. There is an urgency to raise the theme of the energy transition toward the use of renewable energy because the energy transition can be a solution in dealing with the threat of the global climate crisis.
